The former Judge of the Supreme Court and Chairman, Oputa Panel died this afternoon at the age of 96.
Charlyboy’s daughter, Yvonne Oputa who confirmed the sad news to our reporter in a highly emotional laden voice, said, ” papa is gone. He left us this afternoon.”
Relatively, the family has issued an official statement regarding the death of the former jusrist. In a statement issued today on behalf of the family and signed by Charles Oputa (Charlyboy), the family announced that, ” The Family of Justice Chukwudifu Oputa wishes to announce the passing to glory of the eminent jurist and a retired Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria at the age of 96″. He passed on peacefully on sunday afternoon, 4th May 2014, after recovering from a brief illness. Funeral announcements will soon be released by the family.
