National Intelligence Chief Sacked In Cabinet Meeting In Somalia

Somali Government official who spoke to GO on condition of anonymity said, the cabinet voted Ali out of office following official complaints lodged with Somalia Prime Minister Abdiweli Sheikh Ahmed Mohamed by Hawiye clan elders that the Intelligence Chief belongs to.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has sacked Sanbaloshe’s predecessor Gen. Bashir Mohamed Jama (Goobe) over security lapse in July.

The beleaguered Somali militant group, Al Shabaab honed terror activities largely in Mogadishu, targeting officials and foreigners in planned assassinations, suicide bombings and apparently coordinated military-style ambushes.

Meanwhile, the President of Puntland State of Somalia Abdiweli Mohamed Ali Gaas welcomed the death of Al Shabaab leader Mukhtar Abu Zubeyr also known as Ahmed Abdi Godane who was killed in a coordinated US drone attack carried out on Sept 1.

President Gaas described Godane “an evil propagator, the worst evil propagator in Somalia, and his killing is a successful setback to his evil plans for Somalia”.

He expressed gratitude to the different international security apparatuses that took part in the operation.

A United States drone strike hit a convoy carrying the Al Shabaab leader and six Al Shabaab militants as they were headed to the coastal city of Barawe. It was confirmed on Friday that the Al Shabaab leader was killed in the raid.

In February 2013, the Puntland North Eastern Regional Military Court sentenced Al Shabaab leader Godane to death by firing squad.

Puntland Defence Forces have been engaged with terrorist groups for many years and have successfully suppressed their insurgencies.
