Ghana Lacks Marginal Reserve Of Energy Generation – ECG

Ghana Energy

Mr William Boateng, Director of Public Relations of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), said lack of marginal reserve of energy generation is a contributory factor to the on-going power rationing in the country.

According to Mr Boating, the country has a huge power generation deficit which needed to be addressed before the current load- shedding could be stopped.

Mr Boateng made this known when he briefed the Media at Agona Swedru, in the Agona West.

He was explaining circumstances leading to the on-going power rationing.

He said currently, the country need sufficient money to help produce more power reserve to halt the energy crisis confronting domestic and commercial power consumers.

The Director of Public Relations said ECG has no control over power generation since it collect from Volta River Authority (VRA) and Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCO) before ECG distribute to consumers.

He stated that ECG is finding solution to its internal challenges to enable it provide more quality service to the people but did not say when the load shedding programme would be stopped.

Mr Boateng called on Ghanaians not to politicize the energy crisis currently facing the nation.

He said the government of Ghana has signed agreements with a Foreign Firm to generate enough reserve power to salvage energy problem.

He however did not mention the name of the firm, adding the ECG is working hard to reduce inefficiency in the power distributions.

Mr Kwesi Adams, Agona Swedru Area manager of ECG said contract has been awarded for the construction of Mast at Agona Swedru Office to eliminate frequent breakdown of network confronting pre-paid meter users in the Municipality.

He said ECG has completed plans to extend the pre-paid meters to electricity consumers in the Agona East District of the central region.
