Braids, The Crown Of African Women;Handy Hairstyles For The Rain

BRAIDS are arguably the most convenient hairstyle for a rainy day. As we continue to wake up to rainy mornings, we find ourselves hating the fact that there will be nothing to show for the hours spent in the salon the previous day. Why? Well, who will notice the cute waves you had in your hair if by the time you get to your bus stop, the waves are loose?

Braids are a style that have been around forever. They are easy to have done and they will not disappoint you should it decide to rain.
According to braid expert, Mariam Macibiri, rather than walk around with a shower cap in your bag, how about braiding your hair instead? You could try long braids, cornrows or even dreadlocks.

“During the rainy season, if the hair is not plaited and it constantly gets wet, it will break,” says Macibiri, who completed a six months course in braiding at Belasi Saloon School in Remera.

The professional hairdresser says that braided hair protects one’s own hair from damage.

Cornrows are the easiest of the three and are a great hairstyle for the rainy season as they need little to no attention.
“Not all women can afford a hand drier, so most of them dry their hair using a towel which is bad, especially for treated hair. The towel will freeze the hair and when combing, the hair will just break,”Macibiri adds.

If you are not into letting your braids down, there are many stylish ways to hold it back, like styling them as one big braid. Net photos
•Tone down the use of hair-styling products. If you are not blessed with naturally healthy hair, it is completely understandable for you to use styling products.

•Keep your hair dry. Try and keep your hair dry for as long as possible.

•Use a mild shampoo. Apart from dandruff and hair fall you might as well have an oily scalp. So you must wash your hair regularly with a mild shampoo.

•Conditioning regularly is vital. The elevated levels of humidity in the air lead to hair becoming coarse and dry, which in turn makes the hair frizzy.
