As three Indian naval ships docked here, India Sunday told Mauritius that it is committed to ensuring the safety and security of the Indian Ocean sea lanes in cooperation with the island nation in order to safeguard their common national interests.
Visiting External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, speaking at the reception onboard the ships of the Western Naval Fleet here, said the three ships – AINS Mumbai, Deepak and Talwar – have been deployed to Mauritius in order to “qualitatively enhance our long standing and multi-faceted cooperation in ensuring peace, stability and maritime security in the Indian Ocean region”.
“Maritime security is of vital significance for an island nation like Mauritius as well as for a country with a vast coastline like India. A large part of our trade passes through the vast expanse of the Indian Ocean. Safety and security of the sea-lanes is thus indispensible for our territorial, economic and energy security,” she said.
“The Indian Navy is committed to ensuring the safety and security of these sea-lanes in cooperation with the National Coast Guard of Mauritius. This is important for safeguarding our common national interests”.
She said the presence of the Indian Navy ships on the occasion of the 180th anniversary of Aapravasi Diwas will “qualitatively enhance our long standing and multi-faceted cooperation in ensuring peace, stability and maritime security in the Indian Ocean region”.
She also hoped that it would “go a long way in further strengthening our deep-rooted cooperation and that our friendship, including in defence sector, will grow from strength to strength in times to come”.
Mauritius President Rajkeswur Purryag and Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam were also present on the occasion.

Trois navires de guerre indiens ancré ici, Inde dimanche dit Maurice qu’il s’engage à assurer la sécurité des routes maritimes de l’océan Indien en collaboration avec la nation de l’île afin de sauvegarder leurs intérêts nationaux communs.
Visite externe affaires ministre Sushma Swaraj, s’exprimant lors de la réception à bord des navires de la flotte navale de l’Ouest ici, a déclaré que les trois navires – AINS Mumbai, Deepak et tastet – ont été déployées à l’île Maurice afin de “renforcer la qualitativement notre longue et la coopération multiforme pour assurer la paix, la stabilité et la sécurité maritime dans la région de l’océan Indien”.
“La sécurité maritime est d’une importance vitale pour un pays comme l’île Maurice ainsi que pour un pays avec un vaste littoral comme l’Inde. Une grande partie de notre commerce passe par l’immensité de l’océan Indien. Protection et sécurité des voies maritimes est donc indispensable pour notre territorial, économique et de la sécurité énergétique, “dit-elle.
“La marine indienne s’est engagée à assurer la sécurité de ces voies maritimes en collaboration avec la garde côtière nationale de Maurice. Ceci est important pour la sauvegarde de nos intérêts nationaux communs”.
La présence des navires marine indienne à l’occasion du quatre-vingtième anniversaire de Aapravasi Diwas « qualitativement renforcera notre coopération longtemps debout et à multiples facette pour assurer la paix, la stabilité et la sécurité maritime dans la région de l’océan Indien », dit-elle.
Elle espère également qu’il serait « aller un long chemin à renforcer encore notre coopération profonde et que notre amitié, y compris dans le secteur de la défense, va augmenter en puissance dans les temps à venir ».
Maurice Président Rajkeswur Purryag et premier ministre Navinchandra Ramgoolam étaient également présents à l’occasion.
