Eskom has dismissed having any knowledge of reports that it is broke. However, the power utility says the government has indicated that it will provide it with a R20 billion cash injection to help Eskom to deal with operational issues.
Earlier reports said the power utility would have no money in 21 days’ time. This after Eskom forked out billions of rand to buy diesel to boost the grid. It also admitted that financial issues were partly to blame for constant load-shedding.
Eskom spokesperson Khulu Phasiwe says, “The 21 days I am not sure where it is coming from. From our side as the company in the terms of the diesel and other things that we need to do in the interim we have everything that we needed. The minister can confirm this because it is partly attributed to her”.
“We have enough cash to do the maintenance that we need to do. If the money is going to run out after 21-days then it’s something that I do not have information of “.
