Egypt says importing gas from Israel is a possibility as the country is plagued with its worst energy crisis in decades, Press TV reported.
Answering to a question about the prospects of the country resorting to gas imports from Israel, Egyptian Oil Minister Sharif Ismail said on Wednesday, “Anything can happen.”
He added, “Whatever achieves the best interests of Egypt, and of the Egyptian economy and the role of Egypt in the region… will determine the decision to import gas from Israel.”
A gas export deal between Cairo and Tel Aviv was terminated by Egypt’s state-run gas company, EGAS, following the ouster of the country’s dictator, Hosni Mubarak in 2011.
Relations between the two sides have improved since the 2013 ouster of Egypt’s first democratically-elected president, Mohamed Morsi.
Cairo has been also accused of acting as Israel’s proxy in maintaining Tel Aviv’s years-long blockade on the Palestinian territory of the Gaza Strip.
Companies are already negotiating to bring Israeli gas to Egypt, but any deals will hinge on approval from Cairo.

Le Caire a été également accusé d’agir comme mandataire d’Israëlà maintenir le blocus de longue années de tel sur le territoirepalestinien de la bande de Gaza.
Compagnies négocient déjà pour acheminer le gaz israélien enEgypte, mais toute offres dépendra de l’approbation du Caire.
