A mother in South Africa has been reunited with her daughter, 17 years after the baby girl was kidnapped three days after being born.
The girl, named Zephany at birth, was taken from a hospital in 1997. She had been missing ever since, but her parents, Celeste and Morne Nurse, never lost hope that they would one day find her.
In their first interview, they told CBS News correspondent Debora Patta about the emotional reunion.
“I burst out into tears when I saw her,” said Celeste. “I couldn’t explain the feeling of what I was feeling and then she came to me and I couldn’t stop crying.”
The emotional reunion was made possible, in part, thanks to Celeste’s other daughter who noticed a girl at school who bore a striking resemblance to her. It would turn out to be Zephany.
