This Saturday, the Nile Special Uganda Sports Press Association (Uspa) annual awards will be held at Imperial Royale hotel to crown the best sportsmen and women of 2014.
It is a black-tie event that will have other Uspa partners and sponsors like Standard Chartered bank and SN Brussels, an international air carrier, among the high-profile guests.
Yet, even with that elite entourage expected, the event doesn’t get any bigger than it will now considering that Gianni Merlo, the boss of the International Sports Press Association (AIPS), a body to which Uspa affiliates, landed to grace it.
This will inevitably raise the grandeur for the sports personalities to be decorated, as much as the anticipation on who wins the sports personality of the year heightens too.
Claire Lamunu, the female basketball player of 2014, Moses Kipsiro, the athlete of the year, Yunus Sentamu, the best footballer and Peace Proscovia, the best netballer, are all yearning for that top prize. Whoever wins this gong this time round, will be a shift from what had become routine.
