Nigeria’s Flying Eagles are hard pressed to wallop North Korea in an U20 World Cup group game on Thursday so as to get their campaign in New Zealand back on track after they lost 4-2 to Brazil in their opening game.
It was the Nigerians first loss in a competitive match in a year.
The Koreans too lost 5-1 to Hungary in their first Group E match and a loss on Thursday inside the Stadium Taranaki in New Plymouth will eliminate them from the tournament.
Both countries have not met at this stage with Korea appearing at the competition for the third time.
“It’s a must-win match for us. We have to win to stay alive in the tournament,” admitted Flying Eagles coach Manu Garba.
“We are ready to go on to win so as to get our qualification to the knockout rounds back on track.
“We were all devastated when we lost to Brazil because we have not lost an official game as a team and we did not expect to lose a game in New Zealand.”
Nigeria may need to run up the scores against the Asians, but Manu cautioned that what is most important would be the three points and the first goal.
“The three points are most important against Korea. We just have to win,” said the coach.
“It is also important to think only about the first goal, any other thing could follow.”
He also insisted Korea will not be pushovers on the day.
“Despite losing 5-1 in their first game, we won’t underrate them. They must have something to have qualified for this tournament,” he said.
“For one, they are very good at set pieces.”
Kick-off time is 4pm local time, which is 5am in Nigeria.

« Nous avons tous dévasté quand nous avons perdu au Brésilparce que nous n’avons pas perdu un jeu officiel en équipe etnous ne nous attendions pas à perdre un match en Nouvelle-Zélande. »

Nigeria peut-être besoin d’exécuter les scores contre lesasiatiques, mais Manu a mis en garde que l’essentiel serait lestrois points et le premier but.
“Les trois points sont plus importants contre la Corée. Nousavons juste à gagner,”a déclaré l’entraîneur.
“Il est également important de ne penser qu’à l’objectif premier,a pu suivre toute autre chose.”
Il a également insisté que Corée ne seront pas des enfants sur lajournée.
“Malgré la défaite 5-1 dans leur premier match, nous ne sera passous-estimer leur. Ils doivent avoir quelque chose à avoir qualifiépour ce tournoi,”dit-il.
« D’une part, ils sont très bons à coups de pied arrêtés. »
