The World Food Programme (WFP) in Libya provided assistance to 64,835 people in the country during May, distributing five tons of food supplies.
In its report released on Friday, the WFP stated that it distributed $1.43 million in cash transfers, highlighting funding requirements of $15.8 million for the six months from June to November 2024.
The report also addressed assistance to Sudanese refugees, noting that Sudanese refugees and asylum seekers continue to arrive in Libya following the outbreak of conflict in Sudan. By the end of May 2024, the total number of registered Sudanese refugees had reached 40,081.
WFP confirmed launching an appeal for the Refugee Response Plan for Sudanese in Libya (RPSL), seeking $43.8 million in funding, including $3.9 million to provide unconditional food assistance to approximately 55,000 food-insecure Sudanese refugees.
Additionally, the organization enhanced its emergency food assistance stock by storing 83 tons in Tripoli and Benghazi. In May, the WFP also provided food assistance to 480 vulnerable migrants expelled from Tunisia to the Libyan border.
WFP also revealed plans to implement a comprehensive supplementary nutrition program targeting 5,000 children under five, 5,000 pregnant and lactating women, and girls with ready-to-use supplementary food in Kufra and family food rations.
