Dangote Refinery Unveils First Petrol Batch, Promises Market Availability Within 48 Hours

The Dangote Oil Refinery, with a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day (bpd), has unveiled its first petrol product to the Nigerian public. The presentation was made by Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Group, on Tuesday at the refinery located in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos.

This milestone follows the commencement of petrol processing at the refinery on Monday, as previously observed by our reporter. During the presentation, Dangote announced that the petrol produced at the facility could reach filling stations within the next 48 hours, pending the finalization of arrangements with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited.

“Our Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) could be in filling stations within the next 48 hours, depending on the NNPC. This is part of an arrangement that has been designed and approved by the Federal Executive Council, under the leadership of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Dangote stated. “Once the agreement with NNPC is finalized—which could be today or tomorrow—we are ready to roll the product into the market.”

Dangote expressed his gratitude to the Nigerian people and the administration of President Tinubu for fostering an environment conducive to growth, development, and prosperity. He also praised the President for his innovative approach to stabilizing the Naira by proposing the exchange of crude oil for the local currency.

“With this refinery now operational, we will gain accurate insights into Nigeria’s true fuel consumption. We will be able to monitor every truck and shipment,” Dangote added, emphasizing that the refinery is positioned to meet the fuel demands not only of Nigeria but also of sub-Saharan Africa.
