President His Excellency Dr Mohamed Muizzu highlighted the Maldives’ significant potential for tourism ventures at the India-Maldives Business Forum held in Mumbai, India, on Tuesday.
The President reiterated that the opportunities in the Maldives align with the nation’s vision for diversification and sustainable growth. Key investment prospects include special economic zones, luxury private islands, eco-friendly resorts, and integrated tourism projects.
President Dr Muizzu emphasised on niche segments, including MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, Exhibitions), aiming to offer unique experiences beyond traditional tourism.
He expressed optimism about the transformation of Velana International Airport and Hanimaadho Airport by 2025.
Additionally, he underscored the potential for public-private-community partnerships. President Dr Muizzu concluded by emphasising that the Maldives’ tourism strategy aims to ensure that the benefits reach all Maldivians, drive economic prosperity, and uplift island communities.
President Dr Muizzu is currently on a state visit to India at the invitation of President Her Excellency Droupadi Murmu.
