Gachagua Allies Talk Tough Amid Looming Parliamentary Purge as Ruto Tightens Grip

Allies of Kenya’s Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua are speaking out strongly as a purge looms in Parliament. Following Gachagua’s impeachment, President William Ruto’s camp is allegedly targeting his allies, especially those holding key positions in parliamentary committees, in an attempt to consolidate control.

Several of Gachagua’s supporters in both the Senate and the National Assembly, including committee chairs, are expected to be removed. Senators such as Karungo Thang’wa (Kiambu), John Methu (Nyandarua), and James Murango (Kirinyaga) are among those at risk. They have been vocal about the injustices they perceive in the current administration, accusing Ruto’s camp of manipulating the system for political gain. Thang’wa, for instance, has claimed that the leadership is attempting to extend term limits for political officeholders to further entrench power.

The expected reshuffle is seen as a continuation of the political fallout within Kenya Kwanza, following tensions between Gachagua and Ruto. Gachagua’s supporters warn that the purge could deepen divisions, particularly in the Mt. Kenya region.
