Turkish Airlines Flight TK1587 from Istanbul to Frankfurt Declares Emergency

A Turkish Airlines Airbus A330-300 operating from Istanbul to Frankfurt has declared am emergency whilst enroute, and is currently on diversion. Turkish Airlines flight TK1587 declared the emergency with transponder code 7700 whilst outbound from Istanbul Airport. The flight is currently making good a direct return to Istanbul.

Flight TK1587 declared the general emergency not long after its departure from Istanbul this morning. The flight was on climb through FL200, before the climb was terminated and a descent initiated. Flight crew subsequently squawked emergency transponder code 7700 whilst on descent through FL110. A direct return to the origin airport was then initiated.

Flight TK1587 established at 10,000 feet and continued its direct return to Istanbul Airport (IST). The flight has now left 10,000 feet on approach to IST and is maintaining the priority transponder code 7700. The nature of the emergency has not yet been confirmed. Weather for the flight’s return is VFR with visibility 10 kilometres or more and scattered cloud. Active runways are presently RWY 34/35/36. Flight TK1587 is now under vectoring for an approach.

Having declared an emergency shortly after departure this morning, Turkish Airlines flight TK1587, originally bound for Frankfurt, has now landed Istanbul Airport. Flight data shows that Turkish airlines flight TK1587 had made an on-time departure out of Istanbul Airport at 0910 local time this morning.

The aircraft was conducting a scheduled service to Frankfurt am Main Airport (FRA). After takeoff, the flight had set course normally before flight crew terminated the subsequent climb at FL200 (20,000 feet). And immediate descent was then conducted before flight crew squawked transponder code 7700 at 0645 UTC. The aircraft conducting the TK1587 rotation to Frankfurt was an Airbus A330-300, registered TC-JNI. This is a 14.1 year old wide-body aircraft belonging to the national carrier Turkish Airlines. It has been an operational service with the airline since its initial delivery in October 2010.
