All Nippon Airways (ANA) will soon call New York JFK International Airport’s cutting-edge Terminal 6 (T6) home. The Tokyo-based airline will be among the first carriers operating from this revolutionary new terminal when it opens to travelers in 2026.
This state-of-the-art facility is central to JFK International Airport’s $19 billion transformation project. Led by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the ambitious upgrade includes two brand-new terminals, with major expansions to two existing terminals. The development will boast an innovative ground transportation hub, and a completely redesigned roadway system.
Terminal 6 is designed to revolutionize the travel experience for ANA passengers through its innovative digital-first approach. The terminal’s layout ensures remarkably quick access to gates, with passengers able to reach any gate in less than five minutes after clearing security.
Spanning an impressive 100,000 square feet, the terminal offers an extensive selection of New York-inspired retail outlets and dining establishments. Premium lounges and carefully curated amenities throughout the facility cater to diverse traveler needs. The terminal’s aesthetic is enhanced by striking public art installations, while its operations prioritize environmental sustainability through various eco-friendly initiatives.
Steve Thody, CEO of JFK Millennium Partners, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership. ANA’s dedication to excellence has been evident during their time at Terminal 7. We’re excited to enhance their passenger experience even further at Terminal 6.
Katsuya Goto, ANA’s Executive Vice President of Alliances & International Affairs, highlighted the terminal’s dual benefit.: “T6 excels in both customer value and operations. We’re confident our passengers will consistently enjoy an outstanding experience.
Toshio Nomura, ANA’s Executive Vice President for The Americas and New York General Manager, added: “New York remains one of our key markets after 30 years of service. We’re thrilled to welcome customers to T6 with our latest 777-300ER offering.
ANA currently maintains two daily nonstop flights between JFK Terminal 7 and Tokyo Haneda. Their Boeing 777 aircraft feature First, Business, Premium Economy, and Economy classes, providing passengers with multiple comfort options. The airline joins fellow Star Alliance members Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, and Brussels Airlines at Terminal 6, strengthening the alliance’s presence at JFK.
The construction of Terminal 6 will proceed in phases, with completion expected between 2026 and 2028. The terminal will house ten gates, with nine specifically designed to accommodate widebody aircraft, demonstrating its capacity to handle international traffic.
A state-of-the-art baggage handling system will be complemented by advanced security technologies and modern customs facilities. The terminal’s exterior features one of JFK’s longest departure curbs, incorporating airline-specific drop-off zones for enhanced passenger convenience.
Multiple premium lounges, including dedicated arrivals facilities, will offer travelers sophisticated spaces for relaxation and work. The integrated ground transportation center will streamline connections to various modes of transport.
Art enthusiasts will appreciate the carefully curated collection of New York City-inspired artwork, featuring both local and international artists. This collection, overseen by the Public Art Fund in partnership with JMP and the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey, will create a distinctive sense of place within the terminal.
Environmental consciousness is at the forefront of Terminal 6’s design. The facility incorporates sustainably-sourced building materials, rooftop solar power installations, and energy-efficient systems throughout. The terminal is pursuing multiple sustainability certifications, including LEED (silver or gold), Envision, and SITES, underlining its commitment to environmental stewardship.
