Wizz Air has achieved a significant milestone by transporting 100 million passengers through its United Kingdom network. This achievement underscores the carrier’s remarkable journey and increasing prominence in the competitive British aviation landscape.

The news comes during a period of significant expansion for Wizz Air in the UK. The airline has just celebrated its 20th anniversary earlier this year.

The carrier now has a fleet of 17 aircraft in its UK network. It presently operates up to 168 flights a day from the nation. It also recently announced that its first Airbus A321XLR aircraft will join Wizz Air UK’s fleet. This is to be based at London Gatwick in March 2025.

Founded in 2004, Wizz Air has transformed from a nascent budget airline to a substantial player in European aviation. The company’s 20th-anniversary celebration in 2024 coincides with this remarkable passenger milestone. It reflected on two decades of consistent development and strategic market positioning.

The airline has established a robust presence across the United Kingdom, operating from six key airports: Aberdeen, Birmingham, Glasgow, Leeds Bradford, London Luton, and London Gatwick. With a fleet of 17 aircraft and the capacity to operate up to 168 daily flights, Wizz Air has demonstrated its commitment to providing comprehensive and accessible air travel options for British passengers.Underside of a Wizz Air A320neo

Wizz Air’s growth strategy extends beyond current capabilities. The airline is preparing to introduce its first Airbus A321XLR aircraft at London Gatwick in March 2025.

This is a significant investment that signals further ambitious expansion plans for the carrier. This new aircraft will facilitate a direct route to Jeddah, broadening the airline’s international connectivity and offering passengers unprecedented access to long-haul destinations.

To commemorate this milestone, Wizz Air has launched the “100 Million Memories” campaign, an innovative initiative designed to engage and appreciate its customer base. The campaign features two primary components: An Instagram competition offering ten UK residents the opportunity to win £100 in Wizz Credits An interactive photo booth at Gatwick Airport enabling passengers to create personalized travel memories

Marion Geoffroy, Wizz Air UK Managing Director, gave comment on the UK network achievement. Reaching 100 million passengers represents more than a numerical milestone, she noted. It reflects the hard work of our dedicated staff and our commitment to delivering exceptional service to travelers seeking affordable, convenient transportation.

Stephanie Wear from London Gatwick’s Aviation Development Team echoed this sentiment, highlighting the successful partnership since the airline’s base launch in summer 2022. The airline’s growth is supported by a substantial workforce of over 900 employees in the United Kingdom.

Recognizing the need to support continued expansion, Wizz Air is initiating a recruitment drive for pilots, demonstrating confidence in its strategic trajectory and the UK market’s potential.Wizz Air has announced the launch of two new routes from Sweden’s Malmö Airport to Romania.

This milestone represents more than an operational achievement. It signifies Wizz Air’s role in democratizing air travel, offering affordable connections to destinations across Europe and beyond. By providing competitive pricing and expanding route networks, the airline has contributed to increased mobility and accessibility for British travelers.

The 100 million passenger milestone is a testament to Wizz Air’s successful blend of strategic planning, customer-centric approach, and continuous innovation. As the airline looks to the future, it remains committed to its core mission of providing affordable, convenient air travel experiences.
