Eastern Equatoria Relief Agency Laments Lack of Support Amid Growing Humanitarian Needs

The Eastern Equatoria State Relief and Rehabilitation Commission has expressed deep concerns over insufficient support from national and international partners, warning that the situation could worsen the plight of vulnerable communities in the region.

Speaking during a press briefing, the agency’s officials highlighted the rising challenges, including food insecurity, displacement, and inadequate resources to respond to emergencies. The situation has been exacerbated by recurring droughts, conflicts, and an influx of returnees fleeing instability in neighboring areas.

According to the agency, its current funding levels fall far short of the requirements needed to address the growing humanitarian crisis. Critical interventions, such as food distribution, shelter, and healthcare services, are either delayed or entirely unavailable due to the lack of resources.

Local officials emphasized that without timely support, entire communities could face catastrophic conditions, including severe malnutrition and outbreaks of preventable diseases. The agency also called for greater coordination among stakeholders to ensure efficient delivery of aid to the most affected areas.

Humanitarian organizations operating in the region have echoed these concerns, urging donors to scale up contributions and calling on the government to allocate more resources to address the crisis. They pointed to the region’s strategic importance, noting that its stability is vital for broader peace efforts in South Sudan.

The commission appealed to the international community to prioritize Eastern Equatoria in their aid programs, stressing the need for both immediate relief and long-term development initiatives to build resilience in the affected communities.

As conditions deteriorate, there are growing fears that the lack of support could undermine progress toward stability and recovery in one of South Sudan’s most vulnerable regions.
