United Airlines Flight UA3 from Chicago to Zurich Declares Emergency Mid-Flight

A United Airlines flight bound for Zurich from Chicago has conducted a turnaround in the last few moments, and appears to be presently on diversion to Gander (YQX).

United Airlines flight UA3, operated by a Boeing 767-300ER, was outbound from Chicago O’Hare International Airport. Flight crew carried out the diversion during the transatlantic crossing.

United flight UA3 began a turn around before squawking the emergency transponder code 7700. The nature of the emergency prompting the off track diversion is not yet known.

Available flight data shows that the flight may have reverted to a normal squawk code. The flight crew is presently continuing the diversion. The flight is currently on descent below 10,000 feet in the Gander region. Diversion airport is now confirmed as Gander International Airport (YQX).

Limited flight data currently, but United flight UA3 now appears to be established on finals for Gander (YQX), passing through 700 feet.

United Airlines flight UA was originally bound for Zurich from Chicago. The flight has now landed at the diversion airport of Gander International Airport. Flight crew conducted a turn around before squawking emergency transponder code 7700 earlier today.

 The aircraft conducting the service to Zurich was a Boeing 767-300, registered N658UA. This is a 31.9 year old airframe belonging to the carrier United Airlines. It has been in operational service with the airline since its initial delivery from the factory in March 1993.
