India to Mandate Domestic Airlines Share Weather Data with IMD for Enhanced Forecasting

In a new initiative aimed at improving weather forecasting accuracy and enhancing aviation safety, the Indian government has decided to require domestic airlines to share real-time weather data with the India Meteorological Department (IMD). This collaboration will enable the IMD to better predict and monitor weather patterns, including turbulence, storms, and other atmospheric conditions that may affect flights.

The move comes as part of efforts to modernize weather monitoring systems and improve the quality of weather information available to the aviation industry, allowing airlines to make more informed decisions regarding flight routes and safety measures. It also aims to streamline the data flow between the aviation and meteorological sectors, ensuring that both agencies have access to the latest weather information.
