“It’s Not Your Business”: Yeni Kuti Fires Back at Ngozi Ezeonu Over Braless Outfit Criticism

Nigerian media personality Yeni Kuti has clapped back at veteran actress Ngozi Ezeonu following the latter’s public condemnation of women wearing braless outfits. The fiery exchange has sparked widespread debate across social media, with fans and critics taking sides.

In a recent interview, Ezeonu criticized the growing trend of women embracing braless fashion, describing it as indecent and unbecoming of African culture. We should maintain our dignity as women and not succumb to such foreign influences, she remarked.

Yeni Kuti, however, was quick to respond, dismissing Ezeonu’s comments as unwarranted interference. Speaking during a live television program, Kuti expressed her support for women’s freedom to choose their attire without societal judgment. It’s not your business how anyone decides to dress, she stated. People should focus on themselves and stop policing others.

Kuti argued that personal expression through fashion is a fundamental right and criticized what she called the obsession with controlling women’s bodies in the name of tradition. She emphasized the importance of fostering an environment of respect and tolerance, regardless of differing opinions on modesty.

The clash between the two prominent figures has ignited a broader conversation about modern fashion trends versus traditional values. While some social media users sided with Ezeonu, praising her call for modesty, others applauded Kuti’s stance, advocating for individual freedom and self-expression.

This incident highlights the ongoing cultural tension between progressive and conservative perspectives in Nigeria. It also underscores the growing influence of social media in shaping public discourse on issues of fashion, culture, and identity. As the debate continues, many hope for a shift towards mutual respect and understanding in addressing sensitive cultural topics.
