Somali Military Kills 47 Al-Shabaab Militants in Coordinated Operations in Galgudud Region

In a significant military operation, the Somali National Army (SNA), supported by local militias and international partners, successfully repelled an al-Shabaab assault in the El-Dheer district of Galgudud region, resulting in the deaths of 47 militants. The operation, which began early on Saturday morning, was launched in response to intelligence indicating an impending attack on a strategic military base.

The engagement unfolded in the forested areas between the villages of Bidde Issa and Gerile, near El-Dheer town. Initial clashes led to the deaths of nine militants, with subsequent operations including airstrikes in the Ali Yabaal area targeting retreating fighters. Reinforcements from Masagaway played a crucial role in ambushing and inflicting additional casualties on the fleeing militants.

While the Somali forces achieved a decisive victory, the operation was not without cost. Five members of the SNA and local forces were martyred during the clashes, underscoring the sacrifices made in the ongoing fight against terrorism.

The Somali government has hailed the operation as a testament to the effectiveness of coordinated military efforts in dismantling al-Shabaab’s infrastructure and restoring peace and security to the region. The collaboration between national forces, local militias, and international partners continues to be a cornerstone of Somalia’s strategy to combat extremist threats and stabilize the nation.
