Etihad Airways has announced a major expansion of its African operations by doubling its weekly flights to Nairobi Kenya a move that underscores the airlines commitment to strengthening ties between the Middle East and East Africa The new schedule will see daily flights between Abu Dhabi and Nairobi starting from the upcoming season replacing the previous four weekly flights
This strategic increase aims to meet growing demand from both business and leisure travelers as well as to facilitate stronger trade tourism and investment links between the two regions The expansion is part of Etihad’s broader global network growth strategy which focuses on enhancing connectivity with key emerging markets
Nairobi remains one of Africa’s most dynamic hubs known for its economic vibrancy and role as a gateway to the wider East African region The increased frequency will provide passengers with greater flexibility and convenience while offering improved connections to destinations across the Gulf Asia and Europe via Etihad’s hub in Abu Dhabi
Etihad executives highlighted that the decision to expand services is based on strong passenger performance and cargo potential on the Nairobi route With Kenya being a major exporter of perishables like flowers fruits and vegetables the additional flights will also enhance cargo capacity enabling more efficient and timely movement of goods
In a statement Etihad’s Chief Revenue Officer said the airline is committed to building lasting partnerships across Africa and sees Nairobi as a cornerstone in that strategy The new daily service is expected to contribute positively to bilateral relations between the UAE and Kenya fostering tourism cultural exchange and commercial growth
The airline also emphasized its focus on delivering a world class travel experience with modern aircraft and exceptional service on board The Boeing 787 Dreamliner which serves the route offers enhanced comfort greater fuel efficiency and reduced environmental impact aligning with Etihad’s sustainability goals
Industry analysts view the move as a sign of growing airline confidence in the African market which continues to show promise amid rising middle class populations increased urbanization and expanding economic corridors between Africa and the rest of the world
