He projected an increase to $400 billion by 2026, positioning Algeria as the third-largest economy in Africa, following South Africa and Egypt. The growth is attributed to strategic investments and diversification efforts, including the development of key mining projects such as the Gara Djebilet iron mine and the Oued Amizour zinc mine. Additionally, the establishment of the world’s largest dairy farm, a $3.5 billion project with Qatari company Baladna QPSC, underscores Algeria’s commitment to enhancing food security .

Plans are underway to increase wages, pensions, student scholarships, and social assistance programs, including unemployment benefits, with a goal of achieving a 100% increase by 2027 . These measures aim to bolster the purchasing power of citizens and ensure equitable access to essential services.

Commitment to Investment and Economic Diversification

The president reiterated Algeria’s commitment to fostering a conducive environment for both national and foreign investments. The Algerian Investment Promotion Agency has registered approximately 7,500 projects, including 129 foreign investments, with a total value nearing 3,500 billion dinars. Key sectors attracting investment include electronics, steel, and agri-food industries. President Tebboune emphasized the importance of expediting investment procedures and providing support to project developers to stimulate economic growth .

Energy Independence and Infrastructure Development

Algeria’s strides towards energy independence were highlighted, with the country now producing an electricity surplus of 12,000 MW, part of which is being exported to Europe. The development of major infrastructure projects, such as railway expansions and port developments, particularly in support of the mining industry, reflects the government’s commitment to enhancing the nation’s economic infrastructure .

President Tebboune’s address underscores Algeria’s strategic focus on strengthening its workforce, enhancing social welfare, and diversifying its economy.
