Jos Festival of Theatre Returns for 16th Edition This May

The Jos Festival of Theatre is set to return for its 16th edition in May 2025, continuing its tradition as a premier platform for theatrical excellence in Nigeria. Organized by the Jos Repertory Theatre, the festival has become a significant event in the Nigerian arts calendar, showcasing a blend of classical and contemporary plays, and providing a nurturing ground for new playwrights and directors.

This year’s festival promises a diverse lineup of performances and workshops, aiming to bridge traditional and modern theatrical expressions. The event will feature a mix of local and international plays, highlighting diverse storytelling traditions. In addition to the performances, the festival will offer acting workshops, playwriting seminars, and discussions on theatrical techniques, fostering a deeper appreciation of theatre’s evolving nature.

The Jos Festival of Theatre is currently the only existing private independent theatre festival in Nigeria, accepting new plays year-round for possible performances during the annual festival. The festival’s commitment to showcasing a wide range of theatrical works underscores its role in enriching Nigeria’s cultural landscape.

As the festival approaches, audiences can look forward to an engaging week of artistic expression that not only entertains but also provokes thought and discussion on pertinent societal issues. The Jos Festival of Theatre remains a testament to the vibrant and evolving theatre scene in Nigeria.
