Uganda Airlines Launches Direct Flights to London as Ethiopian Airlines Secures GE Engine Deal

The African aviation sector is witnessing a surge of momentum as two major carriers, Uganda Airlines and Ethiopian Airlines, announce landmark advancements in their international operations.

On May 18, 2025, Uganda Airlines successfully launched its first nonstop flight from Entebbe International Airport to London Gatwick. This new long-haul route is operated using the airline’s Airbus A330-800neo, offering a modern, fuel-efficient option for both business and leisure travelers.

The route is expected to bolster tourism, enhance bilateral trade, and strengthen diplomatic and commercial ties between Uganda and the United Kingdom. This move forms part of Uganda Airlines’ broader strategy to position itself as a key East African aviation hub.

Meanwhile, Ethiopian Airlines, Africa’s largest and most influential carrier, has announced a new strategic partnership with GE Aerospace. The airline has signed long-term engine agreements to power its expanding fleet of Boeing aircraft.

This collaboration not only supports Ethiopian’s aggressive global expansion plans but also underscores its commitment to environmental sustainability and advanced aviation technologies.

Ethiopian Airlines remains a dominant force in African aviation, known for its innovation, reliability, and extensive international route network.
