The Ministry of Foreign Affairs joined the African Union and member states in commemorating Africa Day 2025, marking the 62nd anniversary of the founding of the Organization of African Unity (OAU), now the African Union (AU). This year’s theme, “Revisiting Our History, Shaping Our Future,” underscores the continent’s collective journey toward unity, self-determination, and development.
In line with the AU’s 2025 Theme of the Year, “Year of Reparations: Justice for Africans & People of African Descent through Reparations,” the Ministry highlighted Nigeria’s commitment to addressing historical injustices and promoting equitable development across the continent.
The celebration featured cultural exhibitions, musical performances, and panel discussions focusing on Africa’s rich heritage and the importance of solidarity among African nations. Dignitaries, diplomats, and representatives from various sectors attended the event, reflecting on the progress made and the challenges ahead.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, emphasized the significance of Africa Day as a reminder of the continent’s resilience and the ongoing efforts to achieve the goals set out in Agenda 2063. He reiterated Nigeria’s dedication to fostering unity, peace, and prosperity within Africa and the diaspora.
The event also served as a platform to engage with youth and civil society, encouraging active participation in shaping Africa’s future. Discussions centered on strategies to harness the continent’s demographi dividend, promote good governance, and strengthen regional integration.
As Africa continues to navigate complex global dynamics, the Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to collaborative efforts that advance the continent’s interests on the international stage.
