City Power restores 60% electricity supply to residents and businesses

City Power has announced the successful restoration of electricity to approximately 60 percent of residents and businesses following a major outage that left parts of the city without power for days. The restoration efforts come after intense technical work, emergency repairs, and coordination between various departments within the utility company, as well as external contractors and local authorities.

The outage, which began earlier in the week, was caused by a series of faults on the aging infrastructure, including damaged substations, overloaded transformers, and burnt-out cables. The situation was worsened by illegal connections, vandalism of power equipment, and the added pressure from winter electricity demand, which typically spikes due to heating appliances and extended usage during colder months.

City Power technicians have been working around the clock to identify faults, replace damaged components, and reroute power where possible. The utility confirmed that the priority areas included critical services such as hospitals, water pumping stations, and high-density residential areas. Some business districts were also targeted early in the recovery efforts to minimize economic disruptions.

According to City Power’s spokesperson, the restoration process was complex and time-consuming due to the widespread nature of the damage. The technical teams had to navigate multiple challenges, including difficult access to damaged infrastructure, ongoing safety risks, and the need to carry out repairs under tight time constraints. Despite these obstacles, substantial progress has been made, with more than half of the affected areas now back on the grid.

Residents in some of the hardest-hit neighborhoods have expressed relief at the return of electricity, but frustrations remain in communities that are still in the dark. City Power has urged the public to remain patient as work continues, stressing that full restoration is expected in phases over the coming days. Officials have reassured the public that additional technical teams have been deployed to expedite the process.

The utility also used the opportunity to issue a public warning about the dangers of illegal electricity connections and infrastructure theft, which have contributed to repeated service disruptions in many parts of the city. City Power emphasized that these illegal activities not only endanger lives but also place an unsustainable burden on the power system, making it more vulnerable to breakdowns.

Business owners in areas where electricity has been restored reported a mix of relief and concern. Some suffered financial losses due to spoiled stock, halted operations, and reduced customer traffic during the blackout. Others took temporary measures such as using generators or scaling back services. With the restoration now underway, many are hopeful for a return to normalcy but are also calling on City Power to implement longer-term solutions to prevent recurring outages.

In addition to repair efforts, the utility announced plans to accelerate the maintenance of key substations and transformers that have shown signs of wear or are operating above safe capacity. These plans include infrastructure upgrades and increased budget allocations for preventative maintenance, which City Power hopes will reduce the likelihood of similar outages in the future.

Meanwhile, local government officials have voiced their support for City Power’s efforts, while also urging improved communication and quicker response times in future incidents. They acknowledged the difficulties faced by residents during the outage and called for a comprehensive review of the city’s energy infrastructure strategy.

As restoration continues, City Power has pledged to provide regular updates via its website and social media platforms, as well as through local radio stations. Customers are being encouraged to report localized faults and avoid tampering with electricity infrastructure, which could delay repairs or cause further damage.

While 60 percent of power has now been restored, the utility recognizes that full recovery will take time and careful coordination. The incident has once again highlighted the fragility of the city’s power infrastructure and the pressing need for investment, modernization, and stronger community cooperation to ensure reliable electricity supply in the long term.
