Zimbabwe Women’s Football League champions, Black Rhinos Queens, had to dig deep to secure a 1–1 draw against a spirited Mpopoma Sports Academy (MPOSA) in a match played at Chiefs Village this Saturday.
MPOSA drew first blood and looked poised to cause an upset against the seasoned Rhinos side.
However, the Queens showed composure and experience, rallying back to level the score and avoid defeat.
In what was expected to be another exciting fixture at the same venue, the match between Highlanders Royals and Sheasham Queens was called off after the visitors failed to present physical player licences.
Sheasham Queens’ head coach, Gibson Mutemeri, expressed disappointment at the outcome, stating that they had made efforts to resolve the issue.
“We had a situation. We did not have the physical licences, but the home team insisted on not playing. They clearly wanted three points at all costs,” he said.
Efforts to obtain a comment from Highlanders Royals were unsuccessful.
According to a match report obtained by ZBC News, consultations were made with league authorities to allow the game to proceed, but Highlanders Royals opted not to take to the field.
