Eutelsat Launches OneWeb Earth Station in Angola to Boost Connectivity Across West Africa

Eutelsat has officially opened its new OneWeb satellite earth station in Angola, marking a significant milestone in expanding high-speed internet access across West Africa. The ground station, located near the capital Luanda, is the first of its kind in the region and enables seamless links to OneWeb’s global low-earth-orbit satellite constellation.

This deployment will enhance digital connectivity in Angola and neighboring countries by offering reliable internet to remote and underserved areas, as well as government, enterprise, maritime, and aviation clients. With this infrastructure, local telecom operators and service providers can deliver high-speed broadband without relying solely on undersea cables or ground networks.

Eutelsat’s Angola station will establish ultra-low-latency connections vital for modern applications such as e-learning, telemedicine, remote monitoring, and financial services. It also opens opportunities for emergency response and disaster management in rural zones.

“This earth station represents another step forward in transforming digital inclusion across Africa,” said Eutelsat’s regional director. “It underscores our commitment to bridging the connectivity gap and supporting the continent’s socio-economic development.”

The commissioning of the Angolan earth station follows OneWeb’s strategy to build a comprehensive ground infrastructure that complements its satellite fleet. The next phase will deliver affordable connectivity packages to households, schools, and institutions—focusing initially on rural and under-connected communities.

Angolan authorities have welcomed the development, highlighting its potential to spur innovation, modernize education and health services, and support national efforts toward creating a robust digital economy. They also view the initiative as a key step toward regional integration and improved cross-border communication.

Plans are underway to integrate the earth station into regional internet exchange hubs and data centers in West Africa, further solidifying its role in enhancing digital infrastructure. With growing demand for reliable high-speed internet, Eutelsat’s OneWeb station in Angola is poised to become a pivotal asset in the digital transformation of the region.
