Iran condemns Israeli attacks as gross violation of sovereignty

IRAN has described Israel’s unprovoked attack on the country as acts of aggression and a gross violation of Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity of an independent state.

As the conflict between the two nations enters its sixth day, Tehran’s Health Ministry has reported that more than 580 people have been killed and over 1 300 injured as a result of intensified Israeli air raids across Iran, while the Israeli emergency department has reported that Iranian attacks had resulted in 24 deaths and over 1 300 injuries in Israel.

The aerial conflict between the two countries escalated after Israel’s surprise airstrikes on Iran on June 13.

Speaking to ZBC News this Wednesday, the Chargé d’Affaires at the Iranian Embassy in Harare, Mr Ali Tousi, condemned Israel’s actions in the strongest terms.

“These acts of aggression are not only a gross violation of Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity as an independent state and member of the United Nations, but also constitute a breach of international human rights and humanitarian law, including the four Geneva Conventions,” he said.

“Most importantly, these attacks violate the United Nations Charter, which expressly prohibits the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state. Iran has exercised its inherent right to self-defence, in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter. We did not initiate this conflict and have no desire for war.”

Mr Tousi further condemned the targeting of Iran’s state media, Iran Broadcasting Corporation, stating that the attack was a failed attempt to silence Tehran’s voice.

The Charge d’Affaires further called on the United Nations Security Council to look into Israel’s actions.

The Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei says Iran will “firmly stand against” an imposed war, adding that it will never surrender to “any form of imposition.”
