Egypt has strongly condemned the recent terrorist attack on a mosque in Niger that left dozens of worshippers dead and several others injured during evening prayers.
In an official statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cairo expressed its deep condolences to the government and people of Niger, reaffirming its solidarity with the West African nation in the fight against terrorism and violent extremism.
“Egypt stands with Niger during this tragic time and denounces all forms of terrorism aimed at destabilising societies and spreading fear among innocent civilians,” the statement read.
The attack, which took place in one of Niger’s volatile regions near the border with Mali, targeted unarmed worshippers gathered at a local mosque, further highlighting the growing threat posed by armed groups operating in the Sahel.
Egypt called for concerted international efforts to combat the spread of terrorism, urging greater regional cooperation to address the root causes of insecurity and radicalisation.
The statement reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to supporting peace and stability across the African continent and emphasized the need for unity in confronting acts of violence that target places of worship and civilian populations.
The incident has drawn condemnation from leaders across Africa and beyond, as security forces in Niger continue to investigate the attack and search for those responsible.
