Saudi Airlines Cabin Crew Member Dies Mid-Flight, Emergency Landing Carried Out in Cairo

A Saudi Airlines flight was forced to make an emergency landing at Cairo International Airport after a tragic incident unfolded mid-air involving one of the airline’s cabin crew members. The flight, which was en route from Riyadh to Paris, diverted to the Egyptian capital after a male flight attendant reportedly collapsed and became unresponsive during the journey.

According to preliminary reports, the incident occurred a few hours into the flight. Eyewitnesses aboard the aircraft described a sudden commotion in the rear galley area, where the crew member, believed to be in his 30s, was seen collapsing during service. Immediate attempts were made by fellow crew members to administer first aid, including CPR, while the captain consulted with the airline’s medical team and air traffic control authorities.

Despite all efforts to resuscitate the crew member, he was pronounced dead before the aircraft touched down in Cairo. The captain made the decision to divert the aircraft and declared a medical emergency. Upon landing, medical personnel from Cairo International Airport and emergency services were waiting on the runway to attend to the situation. The deceased was taken off the aircraft, and passengers were temporarily disembarked while the airline coordinated with Egyptian authorities.

Saudi Airlines released a brief statement confirming the incident and expressing condolences to the family and colleagues of the deceased. The statement read:

“We are deeply saddened to confirm the passing of one of our valued crew members onboard flight SV129 from Riyadh to Paris. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during this difficult time. Saudi Airlines is working closely with relevant authorities to complete all necessary procedures and ensure the wellbeing of all passengers.”

Passengers on board the flight commended the professionalism of the airline’s staff, who remained calm and supportive throughout the crisis. One passenger shared that the crew managed the situation with dignity, ensuring passengers remained informed and calm.

Cairo authorities are currently assisting with necessary medical and legal formalities, including an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. The identity of the deceased crew member has not been publicly released pending notification of next of kin.

The flight later resumed its journey to Paris after a delay of several hours. Saudi Airlines has also offered support and counseling to the affected crew members and passengers who may have been traumatized by the incident.

This tragic event marks a rare but sobering reminder of the human side of aviation. While flight crews are trained to handle emergencies with precision and calm, such incidents highlight the pressures and health challenges that can arise even at 30,000 feet.

As the investigation continues, Saudi Airlines has reiterated its commitment to the highest safety and health standards for both passengers and crew. Further updates are expected following the results of the medical examination and the conclusion of the internal and external investigations.
