Stanbic Bank Zimbabwe, in partnership with Midlands State University (MSU), has launched a new scholarship programme aimed at supporting underprivileged students pursuing tertiary education.
The initiative, unveiled during a signing ceremony at the MSU main campus in Gweru, will see five students—three female and two male—receive full tuition support for the duration of their undergraduate studies, beginning in the 2025/2026 academic year. In addition to tuition fees, each beneficiary will also receive a personal laptop to enhance their learning experience.
Valued at US\$52,000, the scholarship programme is set to run from August 2025 to 2029. The move comes as MSU marks its 25th anniversary and is part of Stanbic Bank’s ongoing commitment to corporate social investment, particularly in the education sector.
Speaking at the launch, MSU Pro Vice Chancellor for Infrastructure and Campus Development, Dr. Gift Manyatera, welcomed the partnership and described the scholarship as a timely intervention. “This support will go a long way in changing the lives of deserving students who face financial barriers to higher education,” he said.
Tariro Memo, Head of Brand and Marketing at Stanbic Bank Zimbabwe, said the bank remains committed to improving communities through sustainable development. “Education is a powerful tool for transformation. Through this partnership, we are investing in the future of Zimbabwe by empowering students who might otherwise be left behind,” she said.
The scholarship will be administered through a joint committee comprising representatives from both institutions. Applications will be open to Zimbabwean nationals who meet MSU’s academic criteria and demonstrate financial need. The selection process is expected to be transparent and competitive.
This new programme adds to Stanbic Bank’s growing list of educational initiatives, including similar partnerships with Africa University and other institutions across the country.
The scholarship officially comes into effect on July 3, 2025, with the selected students set to begin their studies in August.
