Ugandan Military Helicopter Crashes at Mogadishu Airport.

A Ugandan military helicopter crashed earlier today at Mogadishu’s Aden Adde International Airport, causing injuries among the crew and damage to airport facilities. The helicopter was part of Uganda’s peacekeeping contingent operating in Somalia under the African Union Mission.

The crash happened during routine operations, though the exact cause remains unknown. Eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud noise followed by the helicopter spiraling out of control before hitting the ground near the airport’s runway.

Emergency responders, including airport fire and medical teams, rushed to the scene to assist the injured personnel and contain any potential fires. Several crew members were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment, with their conditions still being assessed.

Airport authorities temporarily halted flight operations as a safety precaution, causing delays for incoming and outgoing flights. However, normal airport activity resumed after the wreckage was cleared and the area secured.

This incident highlights the ongoing challenges and dangers faced by peacekeeping forces in Somalia, where security remains fragile despite international efforts. Investigations into the cause of the crash have begun, with officials promising to release more details as they become available.

Ugandan military officials expressed concern and extended their support to the affected personnel and their families. The international community continues to monitor the situation closely.
