Vietnam Airlines Inaugurates New Flights from Hanoi to Milan with 787

Vietnam Airlines has officially launched a new direct flight route connecting Hanoi, Vietnam’s capital, to Milan, Italy—marking a significant milestone in the airline’s expansion into Europe. The inaugural flight departed from Nội Bài International Airport in Hanoi and landed at Milan Malpensa Airport, making Vietnam Airlines the first and only Vietnamese carrier to operate direct flights to Italy’s global fashion and business hub.

The route will be operated twice weekly using the modern Boeing 787 Dreamliner, known for its fuel efficiency, comfort, and long-haul capabilities. The flight from Hanoi to Milan takes approximately 12 hours, offering a convenient, non-stop option for travelers between Southeast Asia and Southern Europe.

The launch was celebrated with a ceremonial water cannon salute upon arrival in Milan, attended by officials from both Vietnam and Italy, airport executives, and airline representatives. Vietnam Airlines emphasized that this route is part of its broader post-pandemic recovery strategy and its ambition to expand long-haul connectivity between Asia and Europe.

Executives highlighted that Italy is not only a significant trade partner for Vietnam, but also a growing destination for Vietnamese tourists, students, and business professionals. Similarly, Italian interest in Vietnam has been increasing, particularly in the areas of fashion, food, industrial exports, and cultural exchange.

By launching the Hanoi–Milan route, Vietnam Airlines strengthens its European network, which already includes London, Paris, and Frankfurt. The Milan connection is expected to boost passenger traffic in both directions, stimulate trade relations, and offer new tourism opportunities for travelers interested in Vietnam’s beaches, cuisine, and cultural heritage.

Vietnam Airlines also noted that the Boeing 787 Dreamliner was selected for its superior cabin comfort, reduced environmental impact, and ability to provide high-quality service on long-haul routes. The aircraft offers a spacious cabin layout, quieter engines, and advanced air filtration, enhancing the travel experience for passengers in both business and economy class.

The airline is optimistic about strong demand for the new route, especially from leisure travelers, business delegations, and the Vietnamese diaspora in Europe. Ticket sales for the Hanoi–Milan service have already seen promising uptake, particularly for the upcoming summer season.

The launch of this new route reflects Vietnam Airlines’ commitment to expanding its international footprint, supporting Vietnam’s global trade strategy, and offering more direct flight options for Vietnamese and European travelers alike.
