Morocco and Ecuador have reaffirmed their mutual determination to strengthen bilateral cooperation across a wide spectrum of sectors, following a virtual meeting between Morocco’s Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and Ecuador’s Foreign Minister Gabriela Sommerfeld.
During the meeting, both ministers highlighted the strong personal commitment of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and President Daniel Noboa to advancing their countries’ friendship through what they described as a model of dynamic South–South cooperation. They emphasized respect for each country’s sovereignty, independence, and adherence to international law.
The two sides agreed to expand collaboration in key areas including agriculture and food security, human development, renewable energy, trade, higher education and vocational training, tourism, and traditional crafts. As part of this commitment, plans were outlined to provide technical assistance for development projects in Ecuador, scholarships for Ecuadorian professionals, and continued support for agricultural advancement.
In addition, both nations pledged to boost trade and investment flows, deepen cultural and educational exchanges, and enhance their shared presence in multilateral forums addressing global challenges such as climate change, food security, human rights, and public health.
Highlighting progress in their diplomatic ties, Ecuador confirmed its intention to open an embassy in Rabat its first in the Maghreb reflecting a significant milestone in the relationship and signaling long-term engagement between the two distant but increasingly aligned countries.
The ministers also announced the signing of several agreements to reinforce their cooperation, including a cooperation framework memorandum and a visa exemption deal for diplomatic and service passport holders, among others.
Together, Morocco and Ecuador signaled their readiness to continue regular consultations to assess and elevate their bilateral agenda, projecting a deepened alliance that spans continents and reinforces shared ambitions in development, diplomacy, and cultural connection.
