ZIMBABWE and Spain are looking to deepen cooperation in several areas, including tourism and agriculture.
This emerged after outgoing Spanish Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Her Excellency Isabel Bonilla, paid a farewell courtesy call on President Emmerson Mnangagwa at State House in Harare this Friday.
Speaking to the media following the closed-door engagement, Ambassador Bonilla expressed satisfaction with the progress achieved during her tenure, highlighting the potential for further collaboration.
“It’s been very good, it’s always very good, very direct, very warm. We have agreed that there is always room to improve, to do things together, but we are starting from a very consolidated and strong base.
“Over the three years of my tenure, we have made progress and opened space for new developments. Tourism, agriculture, arts, and education have been key areas of bilateral cooperation, and we are very happy with what has been done and what can still be achieved,” she said.
Diplomatic ties between Zimbabwe and Spain date back to 1980, with Spain supporting Zimbabwe’s economic recovery efforts, including Arrears Clearance and Debt Resolution, as well as the Zimbabwe-EU Partnership Dialogue.
The partnership has also extended to cultural and educational exchanges aimed at fostering greater understanding between the two nations.
