IMPROVING output on Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC)’s various platforms took centre stage during a Presenters Training Programme held in Harare this Friday.
The old and new voices and faces of ZBC TV and Radio came together for a comprehensive training programme as part of efforts by the national broadcaster to enhance broadcast quality.
“One can always learn new things every day, and being here is an eye-opener. Things are changing, and it is important we stay relevant in this digital era,” Radio Zimbabwe producer/ presenter, Lionel Mkandla said.
“I am sure through this training we are going to improve. There are a lot of things I thought I knew but in fact did not know,” TV presenter, Stella Muusha said.
“I am going to use all that I have learnt to execute my role better,” news presenter, Mandipa Mucheche said.
“It is refreshing to have veteran broadcasters teach us how it’s done and how we can improve,” Luzibo Radio Presenter, Mthokozisi Zondo said.
“We are in the digital era, and it is important to consider how we can merge the two to have a better product. I am sure we are going to be better producers and presenters after this,” TV/Radio presenter, Lucy Ngosolo said.
ZBC’s Chief Producer of TV bulletins, Ms Chenai Masawi believes the engagement with the presenters was worthwhile.
“This engagement helped us understand things from the presenters’ point of view, and going forward, we are going to ensure that we work closely together to produce a good product,” she said.
Media practitioner and Nyanga South legislator Honourable Supa Mandiwanzira, who was one of the speakers at the workshop, reminded the presenters that they have a critical role to play in national development.
“The media is a powerful tool which should be used wisely, and it is important to understand that as a presenter, one has a mandate to inform, educate and unite Zimbabweans. Presenters must be Patriotic professionals who understand the weight of the microphone they hold,” he said.
Chairperson of the Content and Programming Committee on the ZBC Board, Ms Ruvheneko Parirenyatwa is optimistic of positive change.
“We are having this training now because we learn every day, and things are changing, hence the need to ensure we stay relevant in this digital era. We have our listeners and viewers at heart, and so we are trying to see that we improve the way we do things. This will be continuous as we find ways of improving content and how it’s presented,” she said.
The Presenters Training Programme is part of ongoing efforts by ZBC to keep pace with global standards and ensure the national broadcaster continues to serve the public interest.
