President Mnangagwa’s three-nation tour to yield several economic benefits

PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa’s recent three nations’ tour is expected to yield several economic benefits for Zimbabwe and the SADC region, after the head of state pitched the country’s investment opportunities and called for enhanced intra-Africa trade.

President Mnangagwa returned home Sunday evening after visiting Equatorial Guinea, Japan, and Algeria.

The President and his delegation began a three nations’ tour with a visit to Malabo in Equatorial Guinea, representing other 15 leaders of the SADC trading bloc.

As SADC Chairperson, President Mnangagwa attended the 7th African Union Mid-Year Coordination Summit with other heads of state and representatives of Regional Economic Communities.

At this platform, successes and strides of the SADC trading bloc were highlighted with emphasis on the need for continental leaders to seek home-grown solutions to challenges bedeviling Africa.

“The challenges of coordination between the AU, RECs, RMs, and Member States is another critical area, which has contributed towards the slow pace of integration in the African continent. It is recommended that the AU and RECs increase, strengthen, and quicken their coordination efforts.

“Likewise, a clear division of labour is necessary to avoid duplication. As I conclude my remarks, I wish to emphasise that Africa cannot afford to stand still. We must act with urgency, unity, and foresight. Timely responses to these and many other issues must give impetus to our quest to deepen integration, invest in resilience, and build African solutions to African challenges. Africa’s dream of unity, prosperity, and global relevance is not only within reach but imperative for our survival and dignity,” the head of state said.

President Mnangagwa went to Japan for the Expo 2025 Osaka, where he was the guest of honour at the Zimbabwe National Day, where the country showcased its diverse culture and pitched its investment opportunities.

The President addressed a business forum, engaged the diaspora community in Osaka, and met several business leaders, reiterating that Zimbabwe is a safe and viable destination for investments in various sectors of the economy.

The head of state concluded his tour of duty with a two-day state visit to Algeria, where the two countries sought to boost existing bilateral ties.

He had an opportunity to visit the National School of Artificial Intelligence that draws students from across Africa, and he had an interactive session with Zimbabwean students enrolled at the institution.

The three nations’ trip opened several avenues for collaboration with Japan, Algeria, and Equatorial Guinea, in various sectors of the economy, giving impetus to efforts meant to forge strong ties with the global family of nations towards transforming livelihoods.
