SEVENTEEN people have died after a 30-tonne haulage truck veered off the road, encroached into the oncoming lane, and collided with a commuter omnibus along Seke Road in Chitungwiza this Tuesday morning.
Zimbabwe Republic Police Spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, confirmed that 17 people died on the spot.
When the ZBC news crew visited the scene of the accident, passengers were still trapped underneath the haulage truck with emergency response teams frantically trying to rescue survivors.
According to eyewitnesses, the commuter omnibus was going to Chitungwiza, while the haulage truck was coming from the opposite direction.
