PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa says government is working on new and robust measures to clamp down on road traffic accidents.
In a statement consoling families of the 17 people who perished in a tragic accident along Seke Road in Chitungwiza this Tuesday, President Mnangagwa said the nation cannot continue losing lives in such horrendous ways, adding that new measures must be enforced across various institutions responsible for road use.
He said time has now come for the government to raise the stakes against guilty parties and to ensure that the costs of bad behaviour on the country’s roads must simply outweigh bizarre benefits those responsible think they derive from reckless driving.
Government institutions concerned with traffic enforcement and the country’s courts have also been directed to properly align with the matter at hand.
With the Heroes and Defence Forces holidays on the horizon, President Mnangagwa urged all motorists and other road users to conduct themselves in a responsible manner.
