THE Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS) Masvingo Province chapter held a sports tournament in Chikombedzi recently, which allowed its 10 stations to share notes on how to render quality service to the nation.

In an interview with ZBC news crew, ZPCS Officer Commanding Masvingo Province, Commissioner Nelson Chikwature, said the sports gala is part of efforts to strengthen the relationship between prison officers and the community.

“The event has not only showcased incredible athleticism but has also strengthened the bond between our prison service and villagers here,” he said.

Youths in Chikombedzi were also given a platform to showcase their talent in the tournament.

“We are happy to have participated in this gala. We have learnt a lot and we now know that the prison is not a place of punishment but a place of correction. That is what we have learnt. Our remote place was brought to life because of this tournament, and we appreciate that they came down to Chikombedzi for the tournament,” one of the community members noted

ZPCS Chiredzi station won the tournament, which has now become an annual event.
