THE Second Republic continues to record remarkable strides in the health sector, with Mpilo Central Hospital in Bulawayo now in the final stages of connecting a newly-installed modern incinerator to the necessary electrical services at the health facility.
Outstanding works include the connection of the unit to all the necessary electrical services.
Once the electrical units are connected, the medical waste incinerator will operate in two stages.
“To show you how it works, as the conveyor belt is started, it drives up waste materials into the incinerator for burning. The conveyor belt is a key component in waste-to-energy facilities. It ensures a continuous and controlled flow of waste into the combustion chamber,” Mpilo Incinerator Electrician, Mr Elton Chengedza said
The government has also remained steadfast in improving the welfare of junior doctors and student nurses through the provision of decent accommodation.
“Most of us are interns, so we do housemanship. Most of us want to be at the hospital because we do many calls. It is also good for us to stay here because it saves us; we do not have to walk long distances to and from the hospital,” Mpilo Junior Doctor, Dr Lee Netekwa noted.
“This place is convenient for junior doctors in the sense that if any urgent matter arises, I can always run to the hospital and do what needs to be done,” Mpilo Junior Doctor, Dr Jeffrey Ndlela said.
Mpilo Student Nurse Alice Mashungu also insisted that this accommodation will really assist them as students.
“We have nice accommodation here at Mpilo, and our welfare is well catered for,” Mpilo Student Nurse, Faith Mawori added.
The modernisation and re-equipping of medical institutions is in line with promoting high-quality health care for the citizenry.
