ZIMBABWEAN fashion designer, Rumbidzai Matemachani, is set to showcase the country’s rich cultural heritage at the Africa Fashion Week in London this weekend.
Matemachani is among 10 African designers selected for the prestigious Africa Fashion Week London which begins this weekend.
The event has been organised under the British Council’s Creative DNA accelerator programme, which was launched in March this year during the Creative Economy.
“I am so happy to let you know that I will be showcasing at Africa Fashion Week in London this Saturday on August 9 at 4 pm. I became part of the DNA programme in March 2025, and I was so lucky and grateful to receive this award through the British Council and the DNA programme,” she said.
Matemachani is excited at the prospect of showcasing Zimbabwe’s rich cultural heritage on the global stage.
“This opportunity allows for Zimbabwean designers to show our rich cultural heritage, our traditions, and our history. I think it allows our designers to become part of a global stage and show that we have the capability to play in the global market. The experience is so invaluable, I am learning so many international based standards, trends, quality control, to do business and network with other individuals in the industry,” she added.
The initiative directly supports Zimbabwe’s creative economy targets, with the London event the perfect stage.
