ENHANCING the quality of education infrastructure took centre stage in Gweru’s Mkoba suburb after the Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) constructed an Early Childhood Development classroom block at Mpumelelo Primary School.
The development has brought relief to the school, which has been facing classroom shortages.
“Our children can now attend classes in a safe space, unlike in the past, where we were always worried that something might happen to them,” a parent said.
“We are so happy with the handover of the project that was constructed in partnership with the Zimbabwe Defence Forces. This is an important building for the school as it will help improve learning standards,” another added.
Zimbabwe National Army Chief of Staff Administration, Major-General Asher Walter Tapfumaneyi, said the initiative reflects the ZDF’s continued commitment to supporting national development through infrastructure projects.
“As provided for in the Constitution, the ZDF’s role in military aid to civil ministries includes contributing to the provision of essential infrastructure, such as this classroom block, which will enhance the Ministry of Education’s efforts to provide quality education to the people of Zimbabwe.”
Several completed projects have been handed over across the country under the ZDF Community Assistance Week, a precursor to the Defence Forces Day celebrations set for August 12.
This year’s ZDF Day is running under the theme: Zimbabwe Defence Forces: Guaranteeing Peace and Stability for the Attainment of Vision 2030.
