The Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) has called on the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to urgently promote over 130,000 teachers who have stagnated in the same job groups for years.
According to KUPPET Secretary-General Akelo Misori, thousands of teachers across the country are frustrated by the lack of career progression despite having the necessary qualifications and years of service. He said many have undertaken further training and earned higher academic credentials, yet remain stuck in lower grades, denying them fair remuneration and growth opportunities.
Misori accused the TSC of ignoring existing schemes of service and failing to address historical promotion delays, which he said are demotivating educators and affecting the quality of learning in schools.
The union wants the promotions to be implemented in the upcoming financial year, warning that failure to act could lead to industrial action. This demand comes as teachers across Kenya continue to push for better pay, improved working conditions, and fair recognition of their professional development.
