Presidential Youth Empowerment Scheme equips Mashonaland West youth with farming tools to boost productivity

THE ZANU PF Youth League continues to reap rewards from the government’s empowerment programmes, with the latest boost coming in the form of agricultural equipment.

Seven brand new tractors, each accompanied by five essential farming accessories, have been handed over to the ZANU PF Youth League in Mashonaland West as part of a broader empowerment initiative aimed at boosting agricultural productivity.

The equipment, courtesy of the Presidential Youth Empowerment Scheme, comes hot on the heels of other major gains for young people, including land and housing allocations under the Munhumutapa Land Scheme and housing projects.

β€œWe have land, houses, and now we have the tools, there is nothing stopping us from producing. This programme is leaving no place and no one behind. Whether you are from a rural ward or an urban one, the opportunities are reaching all corners. With this equipment, we can expand production, create jobs, and contribute to national food security while improving our own livelihoods,” a beneficiary, Cde Shepherd Marime said.

β€œWe feel proud and motivated. For years, we had the energy, but not the tools and now we have both. The leadership is showing us that when they say β€˜nyika inovakwa ne vene vayo,’ it is not just talk; it is action. We are grateful, and we promise to make the most of this chance for the benefit of our communities and the nation,” another beneficiary, Cde Tapiwa Karonga stated.

Government and the provincial party leadership expressed gratitude, saying the provision of land, shelter and farming machinery is testament to the party’s commitment to uplifting young people.

β€œThis handover is part of a deliberate empowerment agenda to ensure our youths are active drivers of the economy. We have given them land through the Munhumutapa Land Scheme, provided housing, and now the equipment to work that land effectively. This is what President Emmerson Mnangagwa means when he says we are leaving no place and no one behind. Agriculture is the backbone of our nation, and by equipping our young people, we are investing in food security, job creation, and national development,” Mashonaland West Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Marian Chombo

ZANU PF Mashonaland West Provincial Youth League chairperson, Cde Tapiwa Masenda, echoed the sentiment.

β€œToday, we are proving that as young people, we are ready to build our country with our own hands. We were given land under the Munhumutapa Land Scheme, we have roofs over our heads, and now we have tractors and accessories to work the soil. This is how empowerment changes lives.”

The handover follows a recent Cabinet resolution approving the National Youth Empowerment Strategy: 2026 to 2030, a policy framework designed to inform and guide youth empowerment in the country.
