VICE President Colonel (Retired) Kembo Mohadi says Zimbabwe will forever be grateful to Angola, for supporting the country during the liberation struggle.
He said this when he paid a courtesy call on his Angolan counterpart, Mrs Esperanca Da Costa at Palácio de Ferro in Luanda this Monday.
Two nations born out of fire, two nations that stood shoulder to shoulder against racist colonial regimes, whose relationship was forged by the blood of gallant sons and daughters who gave it all for their motherland, this is the story of Zimbabwe and Angola.
The meeting between Vice President Mohadi and Mrs Da Costa was not just a formality, but a clear demonstration of a perpetual mutual relationship between the two countries.
Vice President Mohadi appreciated the role played by Angola during Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle, adding that the government will construct a befitting shrine at Boma camp, where hundreds of freedom fighters were bombed while undergoing training in 1979.
The Vice President, who is also the Second Secretary of the ruling ZANU PF party, also paid a courtesy call on Angola’s ruling party, MPLA Vice President, Mrs Mara Da Silva Qiosa where they discussed several issues, key among them the importance of preserving unity among liberation movements.
The symbiotic relationship between Zimbabwe and Angola dates back to the time of the liberation struggle, where Angola provided training bases for ZIPRA cadres.
More than 300 ZIPRA guerrillas were killed at Boma camp together with Angolans and Cubans in a 1979 attack.
The Second Republic plans to immortalise their contribution through the construction of shrines.
