All set for AUSC Region V Darts Youth Championships kick off in Mazowe

ZIMBABWE has made history by hosting the AUSC Region V Youth Darts Championships for the first time since the tournament’s inception in 2011.

The continental showcase being held in Mazowe has drawn over 70 participants from across Southern Africa.

As Brave Mombo, a boy from the rural outskirts, dreams of conquering the region, Zimbabwe’s potential to produce its own version of teenage darts sensation Luke Littler is becoming more than just a dream.

“I come from Nyamuziwa. I started playing darts in 2025, so I have less than a month of playing darts. However, I have been excelling and here I am representing Zimbabwe as a national champion, and I want to make my country proud,” Mombo said.

The setting up of the stage at the Amai Mugabe International School has reignited hopes of the awakening of a giant in Zimbabwean Darts, with the future of the sport receiving tremendous support, going pound for pound with eight countries in the bi-annual youth competition.

This marks a major milestone for Zimbabwe, not only as a host, but as an emerging powerhouse in youth sports development.

“As a country, this proves that we are a sports tourism destination and we keep on expanding. All these countries here and our hospitality will help place us at the top.  Our future in sports tourism as a country is great,” SRC Commissioner, Gwinyai Tamuka Mharapara said.

Since its inception in 2011, the tournament has grown to become a platform for nurturing talent, with this year’s edition promising intense competition and cultural exchange.

“We already have plans to join Africa Darts, the board is already there. The broader vision is also to join World Darts. Unfortunately, the current framework is to join World Darts first, but we want that to be reformed, because you cannot start at the top without preliminaries,” National Darts Association Zimbabwe president Maynard Moyo said.

After the official opening of the tourney, the stage is set for the kick-off this Thursday.

It will run until August 29, with hopes high that Team Zimbabwe will deliver on home soil.
